Collage, Color and Stitch

June 19, 2016

April was a busy month this year with many classes here at the studio. So busy in fact, I am just now beginning to catch up with our blogs about what has been happening. We have always run long courses, covering anywhere from 3 to 5 days at a time and  5 to 8 sessions, depending on the particular level and the course. So it was novel for me to offer a series of short evening courses. The first was called Collage, Color and Stitch. The first session of 2 hours we arranged small fabric compositions into an artful collage and learnt a few stitches. The second session we dyed our fabric compositions and learned a few more stitches. The third session, we used a different method of collage and yet a few more stitches. We took a little time to talk and look at each other’s work.   This class had a number of new stitchers and also some who had  experience. It is so impressive to see how much work people do after the class. Before I could blink, the class came to an end. It was stimulating for me and I believe also the 9 participants. Have a look at a few collages from this class.   I enjoyed it so much that I planned a future series of evening classes on July 21, 28th and Aug. 4th over 3 evenings called  The Elements of Art and Design – Color, Line Shape, Texture and Pattern .  This series will also be for new comers or those who would like to be reminded how exciting these elements can be.      Gail Harker
