Art and Design in North America – Open House

February 12, 2015

Level 3 Studies in Art and Design – Chocolate Flowers

On the 31 of January, we held an Open House at Barn House to display course work over the past 8- 5 day sessions.   We placed art on the walls and made a display of the sketchbooks and designed right to the end.  Students made individual presentations of their work to their fellow students.  A Celebration dinner at The Tree House in La Conner was enjoyed by the group. We opened to the public for 3 hours on Saturday.  100 people visited. Luckily the timing of guests allowed parking for all.

The focus of this course is to enable students to develop a series of basic design skills. I originally developed this course for the City & Guilds of London program and with time it has grown to reflect the interests of North American students.  The course is designed to take beginners to a level of competence where they are able to use a variety of art media to individually express theme ideas in a number of different ways. Although this course is called level 3, the only qualification that is needed is level 1 Color, from online or students at the center. The next level 3 hasn’t been formally announced on our website yet but I can tell you the beginning date in 2015 will be Oct. 3. Let us know if you would like information when it is available or have a look at our website at the last level 3 Course

Enjoy the artwork from our illustrious hard working group over the next few blogs.  Congratulations – group.  Gail       see 9 slides

Wish I could have been there, it looks like lovely work. I had hoped I could join you for the next level 3 A&D class but I already have a trip planned to NYC beginning on Oct 4 for a week. *&!$##

Gail, you are so talented In bringing out the talent in others. I would encourage anyone who might be thinking of dipping their toe into an artistic adventure to sign up to an adventure with you. i love this quote on the heart of art.
A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his mind is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist. (St. Thomas Aquinas)
