Level 2 Design and Experimental Stitch – Bergamot

Christina Fairley Erickson:

Each session of the six Level 2 classes focused on different skills and techniques expertly designed to increase our technical competency in stitch and our artistic eye for good design.  Over the year and a half long series, we learned how thorough planning, testing and sampling allows a design to develop into a successful finished piece. By getting to know the qualities of different materials-types of threads, fabrics, dyes, paints, etc. we started to be able to accurately predict and choose mediums for our work with greater successful outcomes.

While I’ve been successful in the quilting world, showing on a national and international level, the processes and different materials we’ve used have expanded my repertoire and confidence with being a fiber artist. The patient leadership encourages us to stretch and learn beyond the ordinary or conventional confines of the definition of stitch work. What I truly love about working in these classes is how every student develops her own style and artistic voice.  I’ve loved every step of the journey and look forward to continuing to work my way through the complete diploma program.
