My Fascination with Details in Nature … Guest Blogger ….. Deborah Hickey – Tiernan

Level 2 Studies in Design and Stitch – Bergamot

Deborah Hickey-Tiernan:

It was the tulips.  The juxtaposition of a sparkling, blue sky, spring day spent in the lush Skagit Valley flower fields and a chance encounter with the Harker Center formed the final signpost to this course of study.

Hand and machine stitching along with the color class in Level One gathered affinities and inclinations into a meaningful relationship.  My fascination with details in nature like the arrangement of petals on a flower, a sense of wonder at the splendor and mystery of color, a love of natural fibers and paper fit into a structure and can become art.

The setting, excellent and comprehensive teaching, and inspiration of other students, all work to summon from me a dedication to practice and the promise of development with continued study.                      See 7 slides
