Big Stitch and Feller Collection at Ashmolean Museum

October 7, 2014

Our first day of touring began at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.  What a special treat it was to see the Feller Collection which had a special exhibit room and some of the finest 16 – 17th C. embroidery pieces that I have ever seen.  Congratulations to The Ashmolean for incorporating and embracing the art form of historical and contemporary embroidery.  Wish some of our North American Museums might follow suit.  We spent part of the day searching through the museum  for  demonstrators from The Embroiderers Guild.  That was part of The Big Stitch event.  Some of our travellers attended lectures from famous embroiderers.  I was surprised and pleased to meet past students and colleagues from Britain and friends from various branches of the Guild.  Gail

We are getting ready for our trip to Berrington Hall tomorrow. We are eating too much but offset it by walking a lot. Glad everybody might get a glimpse.
