Underground Art……Guest Blogger – Terri Shinn

September 4, 2014

Level 4 Experimental Research for Advanced Design

With my theme  “The Underground,”  I thought my focus would be on catacombs, tunnels and such.  However, as time went on I discovered a fascination with ant nests, subways, and strata in caves. I have always loved exploring textures, patterns, lines, negatives and positives. But, in this course, I truly became more confident with mixed-media and found my new “media” of choice in shadows. Once again I tackled a large piece, and with 1800 hours in, it almost tackled me.  Art and Design Level 4, was a wonderful growth period and I feel “fearless” to tackle many new projects ahead.

Terri, your underground works are very exciting. Also, I am so glad that I now have the face that belongs to the very innovative ‘rusting metal hanging’ you made several years ago. Your work speaks to my heart!
