Guest Blogger: Marilyn Moore …….. Wire as Fiber

April 18, 2014

As a fiber artist, when I started to play with wire as a fiber everything about it excited me. Wire is flexible yet stiff. It has light reflective qualities and using fine wires make it possible to blend colors for exciting effects.

At the beginning I had a limited color palette and so I used a method of color blending that works with the fine wires that I prefer. I was able to use many of the fiber techniques that I had used for years with wire as the only fiber.

While I enjoy all kinds of fiber pursuits I found a home with basketry. Something about the three dimensional form and the techniques that basketmakers use are what I like the best. To translate the fiber techniques to wire seemed like a natural progression.  Marilyn

Marilyn explores the vessel form and has expanded her work into woven jewelry forms. Working with color and color blending are important aspects to her recent work. For additional information about Marilyn visit her website:

Her work can be found in public and private collections around the country and she has won awards for her work at every level.  She holds a BFA with an emphasis in fiber from the University of Washington.

Marilyn will be at our center teaching a class called Wire as Fiber  – An Integration of Technique and Inspiration  from 15 – 18th of May.  Have a look at our website for details.
