Art Work from a Color Wheel – Guest Blogger – Maria Patrizzi

October 17, 2013

The theme is circles and if you look around, inspiration can come from anywhere.  The containing 6″ x6″ square doesn’t need to contain a perfect circle but could be partial circles, or lumpy distorted circles like those found in nature. If you’d like the guidelines to make a 6″x6″ piece of artwork for our auction on Dec. 10th, just send us an email.  There is still time to enter.  The artwork hasn’t yet been placed up on the blog but we will let you know when that happens. Entries can be multi – media or stitching.  Join our students for a great online exhibition. Designing with parameters is so revealing to oneself about how a person may be inspired. This auction challenge of 6″x6″, blues to yellows, and the circle gives us so many ways to start the art work! The pears at the store were very yellow green, so color was the inspiration. Addressing the square shape is what brought “Hope for Spring Dawn” collage to completion. And then I could not resist the circles of metal washers- so the assemblage “Impending Orbital Collision” was made.

At first I did not like having parameters- why not just have us donate work? Especially this one, as I have an affinity to red (what- no red!?#) But that forces us to work on the real design, to thoughtfully use color, and adds a cohesion to the exhibit. (Strength in numbers, as it were) Gail has thought this through, probably including the next auction, and any of us contributing are all the better artist for doing so!
