The Art of the Needle

A dynamic group from Canada and the U.S met at our studio to study Level 1 Experimental Hand Stitch this past week. Most hadn’t met each other before, but by the end of the 5 day course everyone felt a kinship with each other. To a newcomer, the course sounds innocent and simple enough. And I suppose it is if you know what to expect, but written words can’t always adequately convey the message of sheer excitement and terror that happens when art, design and stitch are stirred up together. This group stepped into a new generation of stitchers.   They dyed their own threads and fabrics to compose unique and individual color palettes to make up the pages of a handstitched book. Homework was given at the end of the course. Penny and I are looking forward to seeing the little stitched books that return to the studio as the result of this course!!!!! Perhaps we will share a few pages with our bloggers.  The next Level 1 Experimental Hand Stitch Course is at our studio  in October 2013.     Gail

Stirring fond memories of my time there in that very program in 2007. Thanks, Gail!

Looks like they dyed some gorgeous colors. I hope you’ll show the finished books, I’d love to see them.
