Art in the San Juan Islands

October 31, 2011

I had been invited to teach a Color Class for the San Juan Textile Guild in Shaw Island

It's a short ferry trip from Anacortes. Arriving at Shaw Island - population approx. 195 is very picturesque with winding roads and tall trees.

Participants for the workshop arrive by ferry from nearby islands about 7:00 a.m. Class starts quite early. A spacious hall to work in .

Green has a new meaning here.

Many of the students are staying at Lola's Guest House - warm hospitality

So many ferns, moss and lichen

15 Island participants who have a strong connection with fibers, textiles, colors, paints and dyes.

Our time comes to an end too quickly.  On Sat. I take another ferry to San Juan Island to give a talk about COLOR

Time for a walk before it gets dark. I can see that this place is a must for more photography and sketchbook studies.

One more ferry ride home to Anacortes and then to La Conner. Thanks to Gwen for keeping me as a house guest and assisting in the classroom. Thanks to Eric for cooking our wonderful meals. Gail
