We recently spent 4 lovely days at the Barn House for Level 1 Feltmaking as I worked with students to explore new techniques.  The felt neckpiece that I made earlier shows how simple elements can be combined to create rich artwork. It is created of handmade felt, machined and hand-stitched, with embellishments of wire, wood and polymer clay beads. The inspiration came from studies of the cedar traditions of native coastal peoples of the Puget Sound.

Christine Wallace and Helga Wilkins are working on their 3D vessels.  Each student came to me with a special need and desire to move forward in their use of felt. It was exciting to see their creativity surge forward in our short time together. Neckpiece ©Valerie Stein,  Bag ©Helga Wilkins, Vessel ©Christine Wallace, Tic Tac Toe ©Helga Wilkins

Ah, I didn’t know the funny face photo was going to be posted! In any case, I had a truly lovely four days of hanging out with interesting women while felting. I learned so much, things I didn’t know I needed to learn. Thanks Valerie!
