Poetry and Machine Stitch – Guest Blogger Sheila Bull

March 26, 2011

In winter, when the fields are white,
I sing this song for your delight.

In spring, when woods are getting green,
I’ll try and tell you what I mean.

In summer, when the days are long,
Perhaps you’ll understand the song.

In autumn, when the leaves are brown,
Take pen and ink, and write it down.

Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass

In Chapter 6 of Through the Looking Glass, Humpty Dumpty recites a poem to Alice, telling her it is entirely for her amusement.  My book, an assessment for my Level 2 course in Design and Experimental Machine Stitch, was inspired by this poem about the seasons.
